14 Smart Micro-Habits To Increase Your Daily Productivity
Each habit affects your productivity levels in unexpected ways. COVID played a huge role in changing how we work, and with the rise of many people working remotely, there are many distractions that may hinder you from doing your work effectively.
As a coach, my days can be unpredictable and busy. However, I have found that having a consistent morning routine helps me start my day on the right foot. I wake up at the same time every day, do some stretches or exercise, meditate, and have a healthy breakfast. I don’t just preach productivity – I practice it myself. I know firsthand just how powerful these habits can be.
Here are some tips for you to increase productivity: –
- Plan your day the night before
- List everything you need to do the following day in order of importance. This way when you wake up in the morning you will know what needs to be done right away.
- Remember proper planning prevents poor performance
- Wake and meditate.
- Short-duration meditation can have similar health benefits to longer meditations.
- The frequency of your daily practices matters more than the length.
- Over time, mindfulness becomes a habit
- Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up
- After being asleep for almost 8 hours, you are highly likely to be dehydrated.
- Make sure to hydrate every hour. Drinking enough water helps reduce severe headaches and tension in the body.
- Start each day with power and intention.
- Are you starting a new healthy habit? Looking to break out of your comfort zone? You will need a solid intention to accomplish your tasks.
- To get started, simply ask yourself, “What am I aiming to achieve?”
- Do a review of the previous day.
- Did you achieve your goals yesterday? If no, ask yourself why
- What tasks took much of your time but did not yield any results?
- What will you do differently today?
- Declutter Your Workspace
- It is easier to find what you are looking for with a clean organized workspace, reducing time wastage.
- A clutter-free environment helps your mind feel relaxed hence you can accomplish more.
- Put Reminders on a Calendar – Google and Outlook Calendars are great tools
- We have a lot on our minds so it’s easy to forget some things.
- Forgetting things we were supposed to do overlaps with what we are supposed to do another time.
- Making use of technology simplifies everything. All you have to do is set a reminder.
- Reach Out To Your Type-A Friends
- These are friends who are highly ambitious and positive
- Energy is infectious. Use this to your advantage
- The mindset and habits of the people you surround yourself with rub off.
- Be less reactive
- If something or a thought upsets you instantly, before reacting to it and pouring your energy into it, pause for a bit.
- That micro-pause will help you see everything in a new light.
- Avoid information overload early in the day
- With smartphones, information is always readily available
- Choose not to browse your phone or social media
- Remain focused on your tasks to accomplish that day
- Use the morning for making and the afternoon for managing
- For most people, the morning is the most productive. This is a good time to do the most challenging tasks.
- In the afternoon your productivity decreases. You are easily distracted and tend to procrastinate a lot. You can do the tasks like Zoom meetings or admin work
- Create accountability by telling others.
- Tell your friends or family what you intend to do that day
- No one likes to get embarrassed by admitting they didn’t get any work done
- This will help you achieve your goals to avoid embarrassment.
- Activate Your Do Not Disturb Mode
- To make the most out of your productive hours, make it a habit to give undivided attention to every task you take up.
- Instead of juggling between several tasks simultaneously, finish one first in time then move to the next.
- Action time
- What you learn will stay as information until you decide to act on it
- You can make changes in your life if you really want to
- Boosting productivity is crucial in achieving success and reaching your goals. These practical tips can improve your focus, energy, and motivation, and take your productivity to the next level.
- Remember, small changes can lead to big results. Start small and build from there.
