The start of 2024 is not just about new calendars and resolutions; it’s a chance to tackle the fears holding us back. My journey from a secure job in banking to the uncertainties of life coaching is a story of facing such fears. Almost a decade ago, after moving countries with my husband’s job, I was ready to return to my banking career. But the unpredictable nature if the sector, at that time, made me think twice on whether to return to the corporate world.

It was during a simple grocery shopping trip that a friend introduced me to the a course that led me to the world of life coaching. This unexpected turn led me away from my comfort zone in the corporate world to a path I hadn’t imagined. Taking this new route wasn’t easy. Fear, especially after being in a familiar job for so long, was a constant challenge. But I didn’t let it stop me. Now, after more than 7 years as a life coach, I’m still learning and growing, and I love what I do.

Fear often stops us from trying new things. We worry about failing, being rejected, or stepping into unknown territory. But fear can also be a sign that we’re ready to grow and learn. Here’s how you can beat fear and make the most of 2024:-

Challenge your limiting beliefs: There will always be fear whenever you’re about to take a risk….feel the fear and do it anyway. Fear can be rooted in limiting beliefs such as “I’m not good enough” or “I don’t deserve success”. There will always be fear whenever you’re about to take a risk….feel the fear and do it anyway. For example, think of times when you have succeeded or received positive feedback.

Find Your Drive: What’s your reason for wanting a change? Is it for your family, a dream, or making a difference? Focus on this reason to help you move past your fear.

Think Positively: Instead of worrying about what could go wrong, imagine what could go right. Changing how you think about situations can make a big difference.

Ask lofty questions: We are often afraid because we think something could go wrong…….What if things went right? What if you succeeded? What if you got that job? What if you got that contract? What if s/he said yes? Reframing your questions can change your whole perspective on things.

Take small steps: Fear can be overwhelming, but taking small steps toward your goal can help build momentum and confidence. Break down your goal into smaller, manageable tasks and focus on completing them one at a time. Celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may seem.

Seek support: Talk about your fears with friends, family, or a mentor. Often, just voicing these fears can make them seem less daunting.

Stay flexible: Be open to adjusting your plans. Sometimes, the path to overcoming fear involves trying different approaches.

Practice self-care: Managing fear is easier when you’re physically and mentally well. Ensure you get enough rest, eat healthily, and engage in activities that relax you.

No matter what you’re planning – a career change, starting a business, or personal goals – fear might show up. But don’t wait for it to go away before you act. 2024 is your year to step out of your comfort zone. This year, take that leap of faith. The opportunities ahead are limitless when you’re not held back by fear.
